Report: Top-flight side plot swoop for Rangers summer signing as Murty closes in on another deal

Italian side Benevento want to sign Rangers enforcer Bruno Alves, according to a report.
Sky Sports Italy correspondent Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed on his website that the Serie A side is keen on the 36-year-old, who only moved to Rangers from Calgiari in the summer.
Alves has made 14 appearances for Rangers since his move and started well, although he has missed a number of games through injury.
The centre-back has bought a huge amount of experience to the Ranger side, with 94 caps and 11 goals for his country.
The news comes hot on the heels of a development in the move for hamilton player Greg Docherty, with a new and improved bid for the player expected on Friday.
Football Insider verdict:
This might not be bad news for Rangers. Alves was a marquee signing but he’s old and showing it. He’s suffering from a number of injuries and he doesn’t really fit in with the new image Graeme Murty is stamping on his squad. Murty has made a number of new additions in January and getting Alves’ wage bill off the books would help balance things nicely. However, these same wages could also prove a concern for struggling Serie A side Benevento.
In other Rangers news, the club have suffered a double defensive blow with a pair ruled out for several weeks.
