Rangers suffer major defensive blow as first team duo out for several weeks – report
Rangers duo Bruno Alves and Ross McCrorie are both set to be stuck on the sidelines for the coming weeks as a result of their respective injury blows, according to a report.
The Scottish Sun claim on their website that the duo are looking at a return date of mid-February at the earliest, with central defender Alves having suffered a calf tear which is to keep him out until the middle of next month.
However the Portuguese international’s 19-year-old counterpart at the heart of defence is reportedly set to be out of action until the very end of February, with the possibility that he will miss the Gers’ next seven games as a result of a foot injury which flared up during the warm weather training camp in Florida.
Alves, who was a summer signing from Cagliari in the summer, has managed to make 17 appearances since his arrival at Ibrox, and took on the captain’s armband for three of the club’s last four matches.
Youth graduate McCrorie, who has five caps for Scotland’s under-21 side, has turned out 18 times this season, making his debut earlier in the campaign as he replaced Alves during their League Cup victory against Partick Thistle.
Rangers’ next game sees them travel to Highland Football League outfit Fraserburgh FC for their Scottish Cup clash on Sunday.
In other Rangers news, the club are expected to make an imminent bid for a top flight playmaker dazzling the league.
