Rangers fan favourite Clint Hill has sent a message on Twitter to Gers defender David Bates after his “outstanding” display against Celtic in Saturday’s Old Firm clash.
Ibrox ace Bates came off the bench as a first-half substitute to replace the crocked Bruno Alves and picked up the man of the match award from broadcasters Sky after a resolute performance alongside Danny Wilson at the heart of the Gers defence.
The former Raith Rovers defender was simply unbeatable as Celtic threw everything forward and couldn’t find a way beyond the 21-year-old Rangers fans have now began referring to as the “Ginger Maldini.”
Carlisle defender Hill was a team-mate of Bates’ last season and sent him a message to congratulate him on his performance against the Gers’ bitter rivals.
“Well done, outstanding today pal,” Hill said on his personal Twitter account.
Well done @DavidBates_ outstanding today pal 👍🏻.

Bates joined the Gers last season on a six-month development loan before agreeing to a permanent switch in the last January transfer window.
The Kirkcaldy-born stopper is out of contract at the end of the season but fans will be hoping he is handed extended terms after picking up the man of the match awards at both Celtic Park and Pittodrie this season.
Bates has made six appearances so far this season for the Ibrox side.
