Rangers fans desperate to face Championship side after huge manager announcement

Rangers fans are desperately counting down the hours until Steven Gerrard takes the reins at Ibrox on Friday – and after his former England team-mate Frank Lampard was named Derby manager, Gers fans are desperate to take on the Rams.

The former midfielders have both taken their first steps in management within days of each other after playing careers that were constantly compared with one another and fans want to see how they stack up as managers against each other.

Gers fans were desperate to see a game between the two sides – either at Ibrox or Pride Park – as part of the summer’s preparations.

Here are some of their comments on Twitter:

The Light Blues are no strangers to Pride Park and actually hold the attendance record at the ground after 33,475 attended former Gers and Derby winger Ted McMinn’s stadium in a game which is still held in high-regard by both sets of fans.

The Ibrox giants don’t currently have any friendlies announced this summer ahead of Gerrard’s first competitive game on July 12th when the Light Blues kick off their Europa League campaign in the first qualifying round.

Gerrard and Lampard will both face massive seasons as they look to restore their respective clubs to where their fans believe they should be and compete at the top of the table.
