Rangers saw their title ambitions go up in smoke on Sunday after a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Old Firm rivals – with Colombian striker Alfredo Morelos carrying the can with many Gers fans after his late miss.
The 21-year-old somehow hit the post from a few yards out in the final minutes of the game leading to some to demand the striker never plays for the Gers again.
After 17 goals in 35 games since joining the Gers from HJK Helsinki – where he was also a prolific goalscorer – Morelos has more than repaid his £1million transfer fee and dug the Light Blues out on more than a few occasions with his goals.
Morelos has played without a break since the beginning of 2017 and is still only making his way in the game.
The Colombian striker clearly has a nose for goal and anyone who has watched the Gers for any real length of time will recall other prolific strikers like Kris Boyd, Marco Negri, Michael Mols and Ally McCoist miss chances they really should have scored.
Morelos was far from the worst player in a Rangers shirt against Celtic – that dubious distinction belongs to Fabio Cardoso – and the idea of binning a 21-year-old striker on the back of not scoring in an Old Firm is absolutely crazy.
The striker will possibly find himself leaving in the summer anyway if the Gers receive more bids like the ones from Beijing Renhe in January but until he does, El Bufalo still has a lot to give the Gers.
In other Rangers news, the club are firmly in the running to sign a goal machine from north-west English high flyers.
