Rangers fans react as 22-year-old reportedly opens door to Ibrox exit

By Danny Wright

Rangers fans don’t seem too bothered by Barrie McKay’s decision to turn down a new contract.

The 22-year-old’s current deal expires at the end of next season and, according to the Daily Mail, he has snubbed a chance to extend his stay for an extra two years.

McKay was also offered a pay rise but reported interest from elsewhere looks to have made his mind up about his future.

The Daily Record previously reported that RB Leipzig were looking to sign McKay in January.

However McKay would be able to sign a pre-contract with another club in January 2018 – meaning that the Light Blues would receive nowhere near the £6million that Leipzig were willing to splash out.

McKay has been a key part of the Rangers squad this season but performances have arguably dropped since Mark Warburton left in controversial circumstances in February.

In 40 appearances across all competitions, the one-time Scottish international has scored four goals and provided 11 assists.

Since Warburton left the Glasgow club though, McKay has failed to score and only supplied one assist.

He was dropped to the bench in Sunday’s 3-0 thrashing of Aberdeen.

Rangers supporters don’t seem too bothered by the news with a lot of them suggesting that the Scot is an overrated part of their team.

Here is a selection of tweets from the Ibrox faithful about McKay’s reported contract talks going south:

In other Rangers news, this Championship 20-year-old has confirmed he is having weekly training sessions with the Light Blues.
