Rangers fans have been reacting on Twitter after it was reported that the club had tabled a £4million bid for Fenerbahce defender Martin Skrtel.
Turkish news outlet Sabah had reported that the Light Blues had tabled a big-money bid for the 33-year-old after he met with Fenerbahce chiefs who told him he could leave the Istanbul giants.
However since then, the Scottish Sun has claimed that the Gers are yet to even enter negotiations over signing the Slovakia international and would not consider spending anywhere near £4million on a player who is due to enter the final year of his contract and is in the latter years of his career.
Rangers fans on social media were extremely sceptical about the original report and refused to believe that Mark Allen and Steven Gerrard would be prepared such a hefty sum on Skrtel.
One fan even labelled it is “utter insanity”.
Here is a selection of their tweets:
I’ve never really rated Skrtel (although he’d definitely be an upgrade on what we have) but the idea we’d bid £4m for a 33-year-old with a single year left on his contract is utter insanity.

If Rangers had £4m for Skrtel, I would be raging they spent it on Skrtel.

£4 million for a 33 year old Martin Skrtel seems high. Think he’d do well for a couple of seasons at @RangersFC but maybe a better longer term solution out there for that level of investment.

I agree, solid signing but that’s steep.

Would be happy with skrtel, but 4m is steep. 2m would be decent

Martin Skrtel would be a monster of a signing. Just what we need brings passion and fire. Still got a good few years left in him.

Skrtel has been ever-present for Fenerbahce this season, scoring three goals in 30 appearances across all competitions for the club.
The Turkish giants have previously come out and issued a hands off warning when Skrtel was originally linked with a move to Ibrox, so it seems that the Gers would have to table a decent offer if Gerrard really wants to reunite with his former team-mate.
