Kenny: Rangers may already have Morelos replacement lined up as £7m bid reported

Rangers may already have Alfredo Morelos’ replacement in their sights and will be ready to pull the trigger if he quits the club this summer.

That is according to ex-Premier League goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 25-year-old striker’s Ibrox future.

This site revealed in June that Rangers have demanded £13million for the Colombian amid interest from Portuguese giants Porto.

Portuguese newspaper A Bola (via Glasgow Live 11th July) have now reported that Serie A side Cagliari have had a ‘lowball’ offer of £7m rejected.

Morelos, who is under contract with the Scottish champions until 2023, has made no secret of his ambitions to climb the career ladder.

And Kenny claimed that the Ibrox club’s hardball approach indicates that they have a new target ready to go if Morelos’ valuation is met.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “At the end of the day, you’re only worth what someone will pay for you.

“If that’s what Rangers want for him and they are standing firm, you’d like to think they already have a plan B lined up.

“When you’re selling players is just makes sense to have someone ready to replace them too.

“After winning the league last year, they aren’t stupid enough to let something like that happen.

“If I know Steven Gerrard, he will have put a plan together for if he does go.

Morelos joined Rangers from Finnish side HJK Helskinki in 2017 and has gone on to find the back of the net 94 times in 182 appearances in Scotland.

Last season saw him score 17 times as Steven Gerrard’s side romped to the league title.
