Rangers fans urge club to sign midfielder, but returning player is better option
Kilmarnock midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu has been winning rave reviews since being plucked from the scrap-heap by Rugby Park boss Steve Clarke but fans’ talk of a move to Rangers should be cooled with Ross McCrorie nearing a return from injury.
The 20-year-old midfielder has been missing from the Gers starting XI since the end of last year but is expected to rejoin the first-team squad this week.
Mulumbu has impressed since joining Kilmarnock on a free transfer and bossed the Rangers midfield in Saturday’s 1-0 win over the Gers at Ibrox but at 31 would only be a short-term move for the Light Blues.
McCrorie was a stand-out in a holding midfield role before his injury sidelined him and the Scottish Under-21 international will almost certainly come back into the starting XI when he is fit again.
With the likes of Ryan Jack and, maybe, Jordan Rossiter still to return too there is an abundance of players in that position.

If the Gers do move for Mulumbu it would almost certainly spell the end for one the midfielders already at the club with the Ibrox side already carrying a heavily bloated squad.
McCrorie has a huge future ahead of him at Ibrox and bringing in a midfielder at the back-end of his career will only hinder the homegrown star’s prospects of fulfilling his undoubted potential.
