Rangers stand-out must banish memories of previous Old Firm encounters in Ibrox clash

COMMENT

Alfredo Morelos may have been one of Rangers’ stand-out players this season, but the striker hasn’t had the best of fortune against Celtic so far this season.

The Colombian has played in two matches against the Scottish Premiership league leaders, and has missed some great opportunities in both games.

In the Gers’ 2-0 loss at Ibrox in September, he was denied the equalising goal when his header was saved by Craig Gordon at point-blank range.

Then, in the goalless draw at Celtic Park in December, he was denied a goal because of an instinctive close range Gordon save, then put a free header wide of goal.

One thing which may be in the 21-year-old’s favour with regards to Sunday’s third meeting of the season between the teams, is that his nemesis Gordon won’t be playing in goals, and Dorus de Vries will be.

De Vries hasn’t had the best of seasons to far, and Morelos will be confident of breaking his Old Firm duck in the match.

Morelos has been a massive success at Ibrox so far this season, scoring 17 goals as the Gers have staged a late season rally.

All he needs to complete the season is a goal against Celtic, and Sunday’s clash would be the ideal time for that.
