Rangers stun over ‘tremendous £15m deal’ for ‘slow and un-athletic’ Hamza Igamane

Rangers have been backed to sell Hamza Igamane for up to £15million despite the striker failing to convince some fans of his talents.

After arriving from FAR Rabat on a £1.7million deal just 11 months ago [Daily Record], the 22-year-old went on to record 16 goals and three assists in 46 appearances across all competitions.

Supporters at Ibrox quickly fell in love with the young star, even despite him slipping down the pecking order under Barry Ferguson, and only netting three times in his last 21 matches.

Mick Brown told Football Insider that Rangers are “hell-bent” on blocking any move for Igamane, though new updates would suggest that France is on the horizon for the Moroccan international as the money may be too good to refuse.

According to RMC Sport’s Fabrice Hawkins, via X (26 June), the striker has already agreed a three-year contract with Lille, and pundit Tam McManus believes a transfer fee of up to £15million would be an extremely good deal for the Light Blues.

Hamza Igamane fails to impress as Rangers exit looms

Taking to X (26 June), McManus couldn’t believe the value, as he wrote: “I never really got the hype with Igamane, to be honest. Great ability, yes, and flashes of quality, but not athletic or quick enough for me.

“If Rangers can get £10million-£15million, it’s a tremendous bit of business, in my opinion. Surely, Rangers have learned their lesson from the likes of [Ryan] Kent and [Alfredo] Morelos, and how to sell at the right time.”

Both Kent and Morelos were routinely linked with big-money Ibrox exits but eventually both left to little fanfare on free transfers and have struggled since.

Russell Martin ready to build new squad around Rangers stars

Football Insider verdict

Football Insider understands that Russell Martin wants to build the squad around Nico Raskin and Igamane, though the latter being sold could help out with a major rebuild this summer.

Cyriel Dessers could still leave Rangers over the coming weeks, which would leave the manager without a high-profile striker, and goal contributions from Vaclav Cerny and Ianis Hagi have already been lost.

It is a rather scary summer for the Gers, even with Paraag Marathe and Andrew Cavenagh leading 49ers Enterprises‘ takeover, and it will be a long process to catch their Old Firm rivals, Celtic.

The state of the squad will likely be a concern for the new manager and owners, with the likes of James Tavernier, Jack Butland, and Robin Propper all still in the starting lineup.

It is important that new and exciting signings are made during the summer, and Football Insider understands that Liverpool have opened talks with Rangers over a deal for Owen Beck.

This shows a whole new transfer tactic heading into the 2025/26 campaign, and if Igamane can be sold for £15million, that money would go a long way to bringing new faces to Ibrox.
