Reliable journalist: Everton playmaker tempted to quit if bids tabled

By Will Butcher

Ross Barkley could leave Everton in January, according to a reliable journalist.

Bleacher Report correspondent Dean Jones posted on his personal Twitter account that the 23-year-old star could be on his way out of Goodison Park after a dismal start to the 2016-17 campaign.

Jones stated that Barkley “will be tempted to leave Everton if offers come it” and that the Merseyside outfit are “concerned about his value”.

With his poor form for the Toffees this season, Ronald Koeman’s side are worried that his value will be severely reduced.

This will alert interested Premier League sides, who might be tempted to make a cut-price offer for the England international.

Barkley, who has spent time on loan at Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday during his time at Everton, has made 14 league and cup appearances this season.

However, he has struggled to impress under Koeman. With just two Premier League goals this season, Barkley has failed to turn the Toffees’ poor form around as they have gone from early season title contenders to eighth.

His lack of form has even seen Everton’s number eight lose his place in Gareth Southgate’s England side, with the likes of Adam Lallana, Jesse Lingard and Jack Wilshere chosen ahead of him in the most recent squad to face Scotland and Spain.

Barkley is likely to feature against Watford on Saturday, as the Toffees look to put a dismal run of just one win in 10 league and cup encounters behind them.

In other Everton transfer news, Koeman should look at signing this 26-year-old ace to replace crocked summer signing Yannick Bolasie.
