Newcastle are interesting in signing Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend this month, according to a reliable journalist.
But Ed Aarons, the Guardian’s deputy sports news chief, has claimed on his personal Twitter account that Townsend will not leave the Premier League club despite interest from the Championship side.
This comes after growing speculation about Townsend’s future at the London outfit after he liked a video on Twitter speculating about a return to St James’ Park.

Townsend has struggled for form this season, scoring just one goal and supplying two assists in 22 games in all competitions.
The former Tottenham man left St James’ Park in the summer when Palace activated the £13million release clause in his contract.
It is also said that the Magpies north-east rivals Middlesbrough have also shown interest in the pacy attacker.
Football Insider verdict:
Newcastle are currently top of the Championship table and most likely they are heading for an instant return to the Premier League. Signing Townsend for the latter part of the season would be an absolute bonus and one move they should make. The winger excelled during his time at St James’ Park and could make a similar impact if he were to return. Not only that, it would also mean Rafa Benitez’ side are also signing Premier League quality players, something which they can plan for considering it will be the most likely destination next season. At this moment in time, his form may have dipped but the north-east club have shown that they are the ones to get the best out of him.
