Football Insider verdict:
So much was made of Gerrard’s inexperience when he decided to take on the Rangers job but all of that noise completely ignored the fact that he might well bring with him a hugely experienced team that would completely make up for that. Gary McAllister has managed at the top level himself, and Beale is a hugely respected coach who has enjoyed two stints at Liverpool and as assistant boss at Sao Paulo. When you put all of these names up against either Pedro Caixinha or Graeme Murty, the folly of the people saying Rangers had made a huge mistake appointing Gerrard becomes very clear. It won’t be an easy job at Rangers and there’s a lot of work to do, but the team that Gerrard looks set to announce will give his side the very best chance of catching Celtic at the top of the table. It’s exciting times to be a Rangers fan and, whether they’d admit it or not, slightly concerning for Celtic fans.
