Aston Villa are facing a huge financial crisis, with talk of owner Tony Xia looking for investment and a “real concern” of administration, according to a Sky journalist.
Rob Dorsett, a reporter with Sky Sports news, delivered the bombshell on Wednesday morning, and added that talks with HMRC were ongoing and that Xia would sell if the price was right.
He also claimed that a fire sale of all the best players was a real possibility.
Understand Dr Xia is looking for inward investment and is prepared to sell #avfc for right price. Talks with HMRC ongoing. Administration a real concern – mainly cash flow problems in China. Insiders fear fire sale of best players. Poss biggest crisis in club’s history.

Football Insider verdict:
There was talk that a lot hinged on Aston Villa winning the Championship play-off final – more than just promotion itself. It seemed like Aston Villa ha gambled a lot on getting straight back into the Premier League and now it looks like the birds are coming home to roost. This is catastrophic news for Aston Villa fans who face the prospect of, at best, another season in the tough Championship without their star players. At worst, it seems that administration is an actual worry, and the long-term future of the club itself. Dorsett isn’t a journalist who’s known for hyperbole and he’s calling it potentially the biggest crisis in the club’s history. No one wants to see a club threatened like this and it highlights the fine margins at the very top echelons of football. Fulham beat Aston Villa 1-0 in the Championship play-off final and it looks like that goal could end up plunging the midlands club deep into the biggest fight of their lives.
