Report: Aston Villa submit bid for Serie A wonderkid, asking price is met

By Amir Mir

Aston Villa have lodged a £14.5million bid for Serie A midfielder Amadou Diawara, according to a reliable journalist.

Sky Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio revealed on his website that the Championship club had tabled the huge offer for the Bologna teenager amid interest from Napoli.

The 19-year-old signed for the Italian club last summer and went on to make 34 appearances for the club as Roberto Donadoni’s side finished a respectable 14th last season.

It is said the player will weigh up whether to stay in Italy with the Rossoblu club, but Villa’s £14.5million offer meets the asking price of Bologna.

Diawara was the second youngest player to make 15-plus appearances last season in one of Europe’s top five leagues.

The Guinea-born midfielder who is known for his energetic style attempted 1626 passes last term making him the youngest player in the top five European leagues to attempt 1000+ passes.

Villa owner Tony Xia announced on his personal Twitter account that the Midlands club are hopeful of announcing a new midfield signing before Saturday.

Defensive midfielder Carlos Sanchez signed a season-long loan deal for Fiorentina on Wednesday morning, after the £7.1 million departure of fellow midfielder Idrissa Gueye to Everton, which leaves manager Roberto Di Matteo short of numbers in midfield.

In other Aston Villa transfer news, the club’s much-criticised duo are heading for the exit door with this high-earner reportedly set to stay.
