Report: Benitez hopeful on imminent Newcastle loan capture as he targets senior replacement
Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez is hopeful of securing an imminent loan deal for Chelsea speed-machine Kenedy as he targets a senior goalkeeper for his squad, according to a report.
The Chronicle claim on their website that the Spanish boss is looking to secure a temporary deal with the Blues for the versatile 21-year-old winger, who can also operate at left back, and believes a deal with his former side could go through soon.
The Brazilian youngster has made 26 senior appearances for Chelsea during his career, four of which have come this season, which included turning out in the club’s 0-0 draw away to Championship side Norwich City on Saturday.
The report also states that Benitez is looking for a new senior goalkeeper to replace the likes of Karl Darlow and Rob Elliot, who have rotated for a role in the first team this season.
However, reports that the club are targeting both West Ham loanee Joe Hart and PSG’s Kevin Trapp are both deemed as unlikely by the Chronicle.
Football Insider verdict
Newcastle have seen three goalkeepers take their place between the sticks this season, following Freddie Woodman’s debut against Luton Town in Saturday’s FA Cup clash. However all have made mistakes, and it seems that Benitez is not convinced with his options. A new arrival would likely see the permanent departure of one of the more experienced stoppers, while Woodman is a potential loan departure before the end of the window. As for Kenedy’s signing, the Magpies had great success with Christian Atsu arriving from Stamford Bridge and will be hoping for the same sort of impact if Benitez can seal the deal.
In other Newcastle United news, fans have taken to social media to react to Woodman’s first ever appearance for the club.
