Mourinho convinced the forward him to return to Old Trafford, re-signing the striker on a one-year deal in August.
He had been expected to return in December but this latest report claims he could be back as quickly as Saturday.
He scored 28 goals for United last season and the news that he could potentially face Newcastle on Saturday is a concern for Magpies fans.
His return would hand the Red Devils a huge boost as they look to close the eight-point gap on Premier League leaders Manchester City.
The news comes after it was announced that midfielder Paul Pogba is also expected to return.
