Report: Newcastle offer first-team football to PL rising star, player desperate for move
By Harry Sykes
Newcastle are still in the hunt for Liverpool’s promising young winger Sheyi Ojo, according to a report.
The Mirror claim that the player is “desperate” for more first-team time and that Benitez wants to offer him Premier League football in the Newcastle first team.
This comes after a report from the the Mail that claimed Spanish boss Benitez was unhappy at Newcastle’s “poor business” over the summer after losing a number of deals.
The Mail claimed that the Magpies had given up on the Ojo deal as his demands were too high.
However, it looks like a loan deal for the player Benitez has coveted for a long time could be back on.
The Mirror report that Benitez wanted Ojo on loan last season but he had injury problems and Jurgen Klopp wouldn’t let him leave.
Now, with Ojo desperate for first-team football, he might have a change of heart.
Ojo only made two senior appearances for Liverpool in the FA Cup last season and didn’t feature in the Premier League.
That will be seen as a backwards step by the youngster after he made eight Premier League appearances in the 2015/16 season.
However, Newcastle won’t have it their own way, as the Mirror report that they face competition from fellow northerners Middlesbrough.
And Middlesbrough might hold the upper hand if Liverpool decide they don’t want to strengthen one of their Premier League rivals.
In other Newcastle transfer news, the Magpies are keeping tabs on this £40k-a-week Premier league defender.
