Report: Nottingham Forest braced for playmaker bid from rivals, player keen on move

By Dominic Toner

Derby are interested in signing Nottingham Forest captain Henri Lansbury, according to a report.

The Sun claim that Derby are interested in the 26-year-old midfielder from their fierce East Midlands rivals, but Premier League side Watford have also shown their interest in him.

It is understood that Forest manager Philippe Montanier is eager to keep Lansbury to help their fight against relegation, but the player is open to joining rivals Derby.

The report details that his contract is set to expire at the end of the season and clubs could sign him at a nominal fee.

Lansbury is regarded as Forest’s standout player this season and is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury.

The central midfielder has made 19 appearances across all competitions this campaign, scoring six goals and supplying three assists.

He has become a crucial player at Forest in recent seasons since his arrival in 2012 from Arsenal, scoring 33 goals in 150 appearances from midfield.

Forest are currently sitting 18th in the Championship table and are just six points above their relation places.

Great rivals Derby are competing at the other end of the table and are just a place outside of the play-off positions.

Football Insider verdict:

Forest should ensure they keep Lansbury at the City Ground at least until the end of the season, or they could suffer a serious battle against relegation. The Midlands side are without a win in their last four league games and are beginning to slide down the league table. Lansbury is the one standout player at the club and they have suffered significantly during his loss to injury. Forest needs his goal contribution from midfield and would be unable to replace that if he departed in January. Forest have been languishing in the Championship for many seasons now and need to keep their star players if they are to ever return to the Premier League.

In other Nottingham Forest transfer news, the club were listed as favourites to sign a goal machine in January.
