Tottenham launched £21m bid for dazzling PL attacker who wished to join - report

Tottenham launched a £21million bid to Everton for dazzling attacker Ross Barkley, but the Toffees said no after a £30million offer from Chelsea, according to a report.
Independent Tottenham news website Harry Hotspur has claimed that Spurs made an attempt to sign the 23-year-old midfielder.
However, after being rejected for a £21million bid it is said that tough negotiator Danile Levy said: “I’ll be back in January for him” after believing that the Toffees were playing their own games with Chelsea’s mega-bid.
But, Barkley’s failed move to the Blues was one of the big stories of the final hours of the summer window and it is said that he travelled down to London with his agents in the hope that Spurs would be able to get a deal done on the back of discussions.
It is also claimed that the player did not undergo a medical at Chelsea, whose interest had gone down and that they were focusing on a player that was ready to go, likely Danny Drinkwater from Leicester.

Meanwhile, it is stated that that Barkley himself is now annoyed with those involved with yesterday and that he wishes he had been able to join Tottenham.
Spurs themselves were involved in deadline day deals for Serge Aurier and Fernando Llorente, while it is claimed that they missed on on Barcelona’s Andre Gomes due to the Catalan giants not being able to get in a replacement.
However, Tottenham could have also played a part in Barkley’s dramatic late U-turn from Chelsea after reported links between the player and Spurs throughout the summer.
Football Insider verdict:
If the report is correct then Tottenham were correct not to go higher than £21million for a player who has gone into the final year of his contract. Barkley himself has also not shown the consistency in his so far short professional career to be able to command such a price. But, Tottenham do need a further attacking player to add to their squad to accompany both Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli and if Spurs can get Barkley at a reduced fee in January then they should certainly make a further bid.
