Rafa Benitez is not interested in signing Iker Casillas, according to a reliable journalist.
Spanish expert Guillem Balague provided an update on his Twitter account on Monday evening dismissing the possibility of a move, saying that Benitez has “other targets for January”.
Benitez is an admirer of Casillas but he is not going to try to sign him. Newcastle has got other targets for January

Balague confirmed that while Rafa Benitez is an admirer of the goalkeeper, there will no attempt by Newcastle United to sign him as the club have other targets for January.
It was previously reported that Benitez was going to try and sign the 36-year-old as he has experience of playing at the highest level.
However, that appears wide of the mark and some Newcastle fans will be glad after news of the transfer caused them to fume on social media.
The Magpies currently find themselves facing a relegation battle after failing to win any of their last six league games.
Newcastle United are 15th in the table with 15 points, five points off relegation ahead of their meeting with Leicester City on Saturday.
Football Insider Verdict
The news isn’t a blow to Newcastle United as their problems lie in other areas – something Benitez seems to be aware of. While Casillas’ experience and iconic status may have been a nice boost for the squad, he has not dealt with a club in a relegation fight before, nor does he have Premier League experience. What Newcastle really need is goals and a proven striker and attacking midfielder capable of shouldering the burden should be Benitez’s main concerns in the January window.
In other Newcastle United news, Benitez has turned to firing shots at the quality of his squad after their poor run of form.
