Revealed: Celtic set sights on signing Scotland international after £3m bid rejected
Celtic are plotting a swoop to sign Kilmarnock right-back Stephen O’Donnell, Football Insider understands.
The 27-year-old Scotland international is on the Hoops’ radar as they look to solve what has become something of a problem position in recent times.
A Celtic source has told Football Insider that they are keeping close tabs on O’Donnell after having a £3million bid for George Baldock rejected by Sheffield United.
The Hoops are looking to sign a proven right-back who can replace Mikael Lustig, who left the club this month to join Belgian side Gent after being told he would not get a new contract.
Cristian Gamboa has also left Parkhead and Jeremy Toljan, the third senior right-back in the second half of last season, has headed back to Borussia Dortmund after his loan.
Celtic face competition for O’Donnell from Championship and League One clubs south of the border, where he had a successful spell at Luton Town.

The nine-times Scotland international has a year remaining on his contract at Kilmarnock and could follow Steve Clarke out of the club this summer.
O’Donnell has been at Kilmarnock since 2017, and had a consistent 2018-19 campaign in which he made 36 league starts among 43 appearances in all competitions.
In other Celtic news, it can be REVEALED that one of the club’s Scottish players has agreed terms with club giants as he’s set for sensational transfer.
