Rodriguez and Everton midfielder sweating over futures amid manager update - Whelan

Noel Whelan has claimed James Rodriguez and Allan will be sweating over their futures at Everton following Carlo Ancelotti’s exit.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the pair only joined the Toffees due to the Italian boss.

Everton confirmed Ancelotti had left his post to rejoin Real Madrid on Tuesday.

As revealed by Football Insider on Friday (4th June), the Toffees have opened talks with former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo.

Rodriguez joined on a free transfer last summer, while Allan arrived from Napoli.

Both players had worked with Ancelotti at their previous clubs.

With the Italian boss gone, he suggested the duo would be worried about their futures.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: He brought in Rodriguez, you’ve got Allan there.

“These players came because of the manager. How are they feeling now? There’ll be sitting there thinking who’s the next manager that’s going to come in? How’s he going to be with me?

Don’t get me wrong, players who are out of the picture, will be rubbing their hands together. They’re thinking right, this is my opportunity to push myself back in there.

“That’s the same with the players that have signed. How are they feeling? Rodriguez came because of Ancelotti. Allan came because of Ancelotti. Depending on how the manager wants to set up, they might not be involved.

“He might feel they’re not giving enough for what he needs. It’s a worrying time for the players.”

Both Allan and Rodriguez played 26 times across all competitions during their debut seasons at Goodison Park.

The Colombian playmaker chipped in with six goals and five assists.
