'I was honest' – This is what Deila told Brendan Rodgers before he joined Celtic
By Danny Wright
Ronny Deila believes that he helped sell the Celtic job to Brendan Rodgers, and suggested how to improve things at the club.
The current manager of Norwegian club Valerenga stepped down from his role at Parkhead at the end of last season which paved the way for Rodgers to carve a new dynasty at the club.
Deila was always a controversial choice as Celtic boss and the fans never took to him in his time in Glasgow, despite winning two league titles.
The 41-year-old has now revealed that he held talks with Rodgers and suggested ways in which he could improve the club before claiming that he ‘sold the club’ to the ex-Liverpool boss.
“I spoke to him before he signed,” said Deila to the Herald. “I had heard rumours by then that he was going to be the one who replaced me but he spoke to me before he signed for the club.

“I had also met him at Liverpool when he was manager there. I came to study Liverpool for a few days and I had an interview with him in his office.
“He just wanted information about how things were and what I thought about things.
“I guess I sold the club to him but I was honest about it, I am always honest. I told him what was good about it and what he should do something about. But what he has done, together with all the staff and the players, has been tremendous – a very good season. It could be an historic one. I don’t see why not.”
Rodgers’ debut season at Celtic has been met with a huge amount of success as he is still yet to be beaten in domestic competition.
The Bhoys look on track to secure their first treble in 16 years and can seal a sixth consecutive Scottish Premiership title on Sunday if they manage to come away from Hearts with all three points.
With a Scottish League Cup already in the bag, Rangers are one of two teams that stand in the way of Celtic winning the Scottish Cup – something which Deila failed to achieve at the Glasgow club.
