Russell Martin on the verge of breaking unwanted record as Rangers sack looms

Russell Martin’s future at Rangers is looking bleak as the Glasgow side failed to win yet another Scottish Premiership game.

Rangers drew against Falkirk, their fifth draw of the season, leaving Martin’s team eighth in the Scottish Premiership table.

Martin discussed his difficulties at Rangers following the result, as the club struggled once again against one of the top flight’s newly promoted sides.

Mikey Moore was hounded on social media by fans for his performance against Falkirk, just one of many underperformers under Martin.

Rangers’ board ‘in discussion’ over Russell Martin’s future

After the draw, more pressure was heaped on Martin after the Rangers fans blocked the team’s bus from leaving the ground.

Sky Sports has now reported that there are discussions happening at Ibrox regarding the future of Martin at the club.

Anthony Joseph reported: “Russell Martin’s future as Rangers boss is in doubt.

“Sky Sports News understands the club are in discussions after today’s 1-1 draw at Falkirk. He has been in charge for just 123 days. If sacked, then he’ll be the shortest ever serving Rangers manager.”

Russell Martin close to becoming Rangers’ shortest serving manager

Martin would become Rangers’ shortest ever serving manager if he were to be sacked soon, breaking Paul Le Guen’s record.

Le Guen spent just 199 days at Ibrox, 76 days more than Martin has been at the club. Second on the current list is Pedro Caixinha, who spent 227 days at the club.

Mark Warburton (one year and 240 days), David White (two years and 26 days), and Jock Wallace (two years and 148 days) close out the top five.

Martin will hope that Rangers’ board can put their faith in the ex-Southampton man as he stares down the barrel at an unwanted piece of history.
