Scott McKenna told to agree Celtic move after confirmed news – expert

Scott McKenna has been advised to move to Celtic in the summer transfer window after his exit from Nottingham Forest.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Scotland full-back Alan Hutton has insisted McKenna should make a permanent move to play regular football and settle at one club.

The 27-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at FC Copenhagen, making 21 appearances across all competitions after falling out of favour at the City Ground.

He will now leave Forest when his contract expires on 30 June.

McKenna’s experience in England, having made 106 appearances for Forest while racking up 33 caps for Scotland, ticks plenty of boxes at Parkhead.

Football Insider revealed in January that Celtic were among clubs monitoring McKenna’s situation, with his availability on a free transfer leading them to reignite their interest.

Hutton explained his understanding of what it takes to perform under the pressure of Scottish football, as well as the opportunity to play in the Champions League, should make this deal happen.

I think it would be a really good decision for him to go and be part of that Celtic team,he told Football Insider.

He’s had that experience of being down south, he was out on loan and now he wants to go somewhere and find a home, play regular football and be happy.

He’s got a lot of experience at international level as well.

He knows what it’s all about. He knows the pressure he’ll be under when it comes to playing for Celtic and it won’t phase him.

He’ll also have the opportunity to win trophies and compete at the highest level in the Champions League campaign.

To get him in on a free, Scottish, I think the deal ticks a lot of boxes for Celtic.”
