Simon Grayson delivers Leeds promotion verdict after Saturday clash

By Harvey Byrne

Former Leeds boss and current Preston manager Simon Grayson believes there is “no reason” why the Yorkshire side can’t win promotion this season.

The 47-year-old watched his team fall to a 3-0 defeat against Garry Monk’s outfit at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon.

Goals came from Kemar Roofe, Pablo Hernandez and Souleymane Doukara for Leeds and the win has seen the club stay sat in fifth place and six points clear of seventh placed Sheffield Wednesday, who are facing Newcastle in the late kick-off.

Now, Leeds are in a good position to end their 13-year wait for Premier League football with five matches of the season left and Grayson told in his post-match press conference that he believes the Yorkshire giants are in with a chance.

The post-match interview was covered by Yorkshire Evening Post’s chief football writer Phil Hay on his personal Twitter account.

Fans will now be hoping the Saturday victory can bring an end to a poor run of form for Leeds which had seen them pick up one win from five encounters prior to the three points earned against Grayson’s outfit.

Monk’s side will next face Newcastle at St. James’ Park on Friday as the north east side look to win promotion to the Premier League themselves.
