BBC pundit slaughters one Rangers player after display v Celtic
BBC Scotland Steven Thompson has slaughtered Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos and claimed he had to score the chance that saw him hit the post from three yards with the goal at his mercy in Sunday’s Old Firm clash at Ibrox.
Morelos could’ve grabbed a late equaliser in Celtic’s 3-2 win but somehow managed to hit the upright when it was easier to score as Rangers fans watched their side’s title hopes come to an end.
Former Rangers striker Thompson admitted he has “sympathy” with Morelos after missing sitters of his own but thinks it the striker “absolutely has to score.”
“In a game of that magnitude, you simply have to score. I have a small degree of sympathy with him because I missed sitters in my career and there is nothing worse,” Thompson said, as quoted by the BBC Sport website.
“He will be replaying that moment for a very long time in the back of his head. It is a tough one for him to take, but he absolutely has to score.”
The Gers took the lead twice through Josh Windass and then Daniel Candeias but were pegged back before Odsonne Edouard’s second-half strike sealed the win for ten-man Celtic.

The result leaves the Gers nine points behind their bitter rivals in the Scottish Premiership after playing a game more than Brendan Rodgers’ side.
Rangers now need to hope they can beat Celtic in the Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden if they are to end their seven-year wait for a major trophy.
Football Insider verdict:
Morelos should have scored that 100 times out of 100 but somehow managed to drag it onto the post and let the three points slip through their fingers. The Colombian has missed similar chances already this season and has come back immediately so hopefully there’ll be no effect on the 21-year-old after his latest horror miss. When the chance fell to Morelos, Rangers fans must have thought he would equalie but it wasn’t to be and sums up the Gers’ luck over the last few years. It’s understandable Thompson has some sympathy for Morelos as the former striker really did have a few terrible misses of his own during his career.
In other Rangers news, the club are firmly in the running to sign a goal machine from north-west English high flyers.
