Sky sources: Newcastle striker deal on after massive development following worrying reports

Newcastle’s loan deal for Islam Slimani is still going ahead after reports that he had failed his medical, according to two  reliable journalists.
Earlier on Wednesday night, Algerian outlet DZ Foot reported that Slimani had failed a medical at St James’ Park.
The striker is currently injured and it was thought that this could have had deeper issues revealed after Slimani took his medical.
This news was reported after it was also claimed by a BBC journalist that Aleksandar’s loan deal for Anderlecht had broken down.

It was a catastrophic turn of events for Newcastle and it must have left fans in disbelief that after finally getting some deals over the line, they were all about to fall apart.
However, much better news comes from nearer the source.
Miles Starforth, a writer with the Shields Gazette, tweeted after these reports had come out to say that the “Islam Slimani loan move is still on.”
He released his tweet around half-time in Newcastle’s Premier League game with Burnley, with the score currently at 0-0.

This was backed up by a tweet from a Sky Sports journalist, who claimed that both Newcastle and Leicester sources had told him that Slimani had indeed passed his medical.

Football Insider verdict:
Newcastle fans could probably do without this drama late on on transfer deadline day, but this news will come as a welcome relief. News that Slimani had failed his medical came from an Algerian news outlet but the medical is talking place in Newcastle which would suggest that Starforth’s information is more accurate. He claims the loan deal is still on and this was backed up by Keith Downie for Sky Sports who added that the player had in fact passed his medical. It looks like they might have two strikers now as Aleksandar Mitrovic’s deal does seem to be off.
In other Newcastle United transfer news, the Magpies have agreed a deal with a top-three side for the loan exit of a top talent.
