Sky pundit claims Liverpool star will 'barely able to understand' what has happened this season

Liverpool legend Phil Thompson has said that Mohamed Salah himself will be surprised by how good he’s been this season.

Salah moved from Roma in the summer for £38million and has had probably the best debut season of any Liverpool player.

He’s scored an incredible 36 goals in 41 games, and 28 in 30 Premier League games, making him the leading scorer.

He scored four against Watford last week as he blew the opposition away with a devastating, yet seemingly casual, display.

Phil Thompson is blown away by his form and he thinks that Salah will be too.

“It has been the best ever debut season for an attacker and it is just astronomical what he is doing”, said Thompson.

“It must be a dream for him and I imagine he will barely be able to understand what has happened.”

However, Thompson did have a word of warning for next season, saying that defenders will naturally figure him out and make it harder for him.

“We’ve lauded it on Salah but greatness is something that comes over the seasons and it will maybe be harder next season as defenders get wiser to him.

“There’s been a lot of players who have second-season syndrome, so it will be interesting to see if he hits the ground running after the summer.”

Football Insider verdict:

Thompson is right. It’s been the best debut season for any attacker and it’s mind-blowing how Salah just keeps on scoring. Four in the last Premier League game and he set one up for Roberto Firmino too. He was bought for close to £40million and will be worth many times that much now. If he can crack the tricky second season then he’ll go down as one of Liverpool’s best buys of all time.
