By Aramide Oladipo

Stan Collymore has revealed that he “genuinely” hopes that Newcastle United will enjoy success in the future after it was confirmed that owner Mike Ashley has put the club up for sale.

The Magpies released an statement on their official Twitter account and official website on Monday afternoon that the 53-year-old is seeking to secure the sale of the Tyneside club in the best interests” of the club and its fans.

This is a massive announcement for the club as Ashley has never appeared to be a firm favourite amongst the Newcastle supporters during his ten-year tenure at St James’ Park.

After the statement was released, former Premier League striker Stan Collymore delivered his own verdict on the situation on his official Twitter account and expressed his desire to see Newcastle move forward in the right direction.

Newcastle fans also took to social media to express their opinion on the matter and the majority of them were delighted to see that Ashley has decided to let go off his reigns at the club.
