Solanke and Maddison react to Mathys Tel’s message after Tottenham exit news

Mathys Tel’s loan from Bayern Munich to Tottenham Hotspur will soon be over with a decision yet to be made on his future.

Tottenham have just three games left to play in a campaign which has largely been one to forget, and can’t finish higher than a lowly 13th in the Premier League table after their 2-0 loss to Crystal Palace last time out.

Ange Posteocglou‘s side have had their full focus on the Europa League for some time now, and their semi-final win over Bodo/Glimt puts them potentially just 90 minutes away from Champions League qualification.

A first trophy for Spurs since 2008 would certainly help to rebuild the damaged reputations of Postecoglou and his squad, and Tel‘s contribution will also come under the microscope as the season nears its climax.

Mathys Tel reflects on Tottenham tenure as team-mates react

Tel’s Deadline Day arrival at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium came with much fanfare, and Spurs could still activate the £45million option to buy included in the 20-year-old’s loan deal at the end of the season.

However, signs point towards a return to Bayern Munich for the Frenchman this summer, and Paul Robinson told Football Insider last month that Tel’s move to Tottenham never convinced him in the long-term.

The former Spurs and England keeper also argued that Tel, Cristian Romero and Richarlison will headline a summer “exodus” in North London, but the Bayern loanee has now reflected on his time at Tottenham.

In an Instagram post (12 May) liked by team-mates James Maddison and Dominic Solanke, Tel shared a selection of photos from Tottenham’s Europa League second-leg in Bodo, as well as painting of himself in a Spurs kit.

Tottenham unlikely to trigger Mathys Tel transfer option

Although Tottenham’s willingness to agree a £45m buy option saw them beat Man United to Tel’s services in January, the forward’s inconsistent performances have done little to justifiy such a significant outlay.

Just three goals across 17 appearances in all competitions haven’t done much to lift Spurs out of the Premier League mire, and the uncertainty of Postecoglou’s own future leaves the decision out of his hands.

Postecoglou could well be sacked even if he delivers Tottenham’s first silverware in 17 years, and as recruitment has ground to a halt amid the speculation over his future, where Tel ends up this summer is anyone’s guess.
