Sorry Kenedy, just one 2017/18 signing named in our five best Benitez captures at Newcastle

COMMENT

Sunday marked Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez’s two-year anniversary at the club, and the Magpies gave him an early present with their 3-0 dismantling of Southampton a day before.

Front and centre of the club’s crucial victory was Brazilian winger Kenedy, scoring twice, including in the opening 70 seconds of the match, to calm the nerves of the Toon Army and push Benitez and his men up the table.

The on-loan Chelsea forward has been catching the eye since arriving on loan in January, although Saturday’s strikes were his first goals at the club, and his impressive displays have resulted in supporters urging Benitez to snap him up on a permanent deal come the summer, with one report insisting that a move is indeed expected.

However, while the 22-year-old has impressed, he still has some way to go before breaking into the Spaniard’s top five signings at St James’ Park, having now taken charge of four transfer windows.

Here, Football Insider picks out the very best quintet of arrivals since Benitez took charge, basing them on price, impact, quality and appreciation by the Toon Army, and includes just one capture from the current campaign.
