Sources: Birmingham City agree to sign Stoke midfielder Woods

Birmingham City have agreed a deal to sign Stoke City midfielder Ryan Woods, Football Insider has learned.

The Championship club are putting the finishing touches to a deal for 27-year-old after he spent the last 18 months on loan at Millwall.

A Birmingham source has told Football Insider that there has been a breakthrough in talks and Woods is set to join on a free transfer.

Football Insider learned on 19 June the Blues were in advanced talks over Woods as Stoke looked to trim their squad.

He has just 12-months left on his Stoke contract.

They have already offloaded Liam Lindsay to Preston North End.

This site understands he could be followed out of the door by Sam Vokes who the Potters are willing to let go this summer.

Woods made the last of his 39 appearances for the club in January 2020 before being reunited with Gary Rowett at Millwall.

He provided two assists in 64 games for the London outfit.

Rowett was keen to take him to the New Den on a permanent deal but admitted earlier this year that was difficult.

Birmingham have won the race for his signature as Lee Bowyer begins his rebuild.

The Midlands club survived relegation after Bowyer took over in March.

He has already renewed Riley McGree’s loan but will be looking to add new faces after releasing 13 players at the end of last season.

In other news, Leeds United are confident of signing a Birmingham City starlet by 1 July after a breakthrough in talks.
