Sources: Blackburn line up Yates as replacement for Southampton and Norwich target Armstrong

Blackburn Rovers are lining up a move for Blackpool striker Jerry Yates to replace in-demand Adam Armstrong, Football Insider understands.

Rovers are ready to cash in on Armstrong, 24, this summer if their £15million asking price is met.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider Blackburn have been assessing potential replacements and their top target is Yates following his goal-drenched 2020-21 League One campaign.

This site revealed earlier today (15th June) that Southampton and Norwich lead the race for Armstrong.

The Saints are preparing for the possibility of losing Danny Ings this summer and they are lining up a bid for Armstrong.

In turn, Rovers have turned attention to Blackpool ace Yates after his 23-goal 2020/21 campaign.

He joined the Seasiders last summer, signing a three year contract.

Blackpool have the option to extend his deal by a further year.

The 24-year-old netted 20 times and contributed six assists 44 League One appearances to fire the Tangerines to the play-offs.

He then scored once and set up a further two goals in the play-offs to help Blackpool secure promotion to the Championship.

Yates has already played 29 times in the second tier after coming through the youth ranks at Rotherham.

Blackburn have identified the hitman as their top target should Armstrong move to the Premier League this summer.

The 24-year-old only has a year left on his contract at Ewood Park and Rovers know they may have to cash in.

He scored 28 goals in 40 Championship appearances for Rovers to catch the eye of top-flight scouts.

It is understood the likes of Southampton, Norwich and Everton are all in pursuit.
