Blackburn Rovers are in advanced talks to sign Cardiff City defender Greg Cunningham on loan, Football Insider understands
Cardiff are willing to loan out Cunningham as he is well down the pecking order in Neil Warnock’s plans for the upcoming season.
The Republic of Ireland international made just eight appearances in all competitions last season with Joe Bennett the first-choice left-back in Warnock’s starting XI.
A number of Championship sides have expressed an interest in Cunningham, but a Blackburn source has told Football Insider that the club is close to agreeing a deal for the former Preston man.
Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray feels Cunningham’s experience will be a valuable addition to his squad at Ewood Park.
Cunningham has won four caps for ROI over a nine-year period, after making his debut in 2010, and made the bench for the last two Euro 2020 qualifiers against Denmark and Gibraltar.
He’ll be hoping that more first-team football will see him back on the pitch for his country.
In other Blackburn Rovers news, Rochdale have agreed a deal to sign this Blackburn defender.
