Sources: Blackpool have six-figure bid for Oxford star Brannagan rejected

Blackpool have had a £500,000 bid for midfielder Cameron Brannagan rejected by Oxford United, Football Insider understands.

The Championship outift have held a long-term interest in the 25-year-old and tried to sign him last summer.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Blackpool manager Neil Critchley is a big admirer of Brannagan having worked with him during his time as Liverpool under-23s boss.

The Manchester-born ace came through the ranks at Anfield and made three league appearances for the Merseyside club during the 2016-17 campaign.

The midfielder made a permanent switch from Liverpool to Oxford in 2018, following a season-long loan at Fleetwood the previous season.

Brannagan has just 18 months remaining on his contract at the Kassam Stadium after penning new terms in August 2020.

The former England U20 international has netted four goals in 24 games for the U’s this season.

In total, he has notched 19 goals and 14 assists in 168 games across his four-year spell with the Thames Valley club.

As revealed by Football Insider last summer (2021), Blackpool submitted a late-window bid for Brannagan (30 August) but a move failed to materialise.

The Lancashire side sit mid-table in the Championship and are just seven points off the playoff places.

Currently 12th, Critchley’s side are 14 points clear of the drop zone in their first season back in England’s second tier.

Blackpool are next in action tomorrow as they take on Hartlepool in an FA Cup third-round clash.

In other news, Blackpool have joined Portsmouth in the race for another EFL attacker.
