Sources: Blackpool open new contract talks with Yates amid Blackburn Rovers swoop
Blackpool have opened talks with Jerry Yates over a new contract, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
The prolific striker has attracted interest from Championship clubs including Blackburn Rovers after his goal-drenched 2020-21 season.
A ‘Pool source has told Football Insider that the club are negotiating a new and improved deal for Yates in a bid to fend off rival teams.
His current Blackpool contract expires in 2023 after penning a three-year deal on his arrival last summer.
The club have the option to extend his current contract by a further year.
Football Insider learned on 15 June Rovers were lining up a move for the 24-year-old to replace Adam Armstrong.

This site revealed yesterday (5 July) Southampton are in pole position to seal a £10million deal for Armstrong.
Yates scored 23 goals in 54 appearances across all competitions last term as Blackpool secured promotion back to the Championship.
The Englishman played the full 90 minutes of their 2-1 win over Lincoln City in the League One play-off final.
Yates signed for the Tangerines from Rotherham United last summer for an undisclosed fee.
He failed to make a significant impact for the Millers’ first-team and has only scored once in 29 Championship games, including 10 starts.
Blackpool have already had a busy summer as they prepare for their first campaign in England’s second-tier in six years.
Josh Bowler, Oliver Casey, Callum Connolly, Daniel Grimshaw, Reece James and Shayne Lavery have all been added to Neil Critchley’s squad.
