Sources: Celtic eye deal for Caoimhin Kelleher after latest development

Celtic are eyeing a move for Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher in the summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking to the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track Podcast, transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that a deal for the Republic of Ireland international would be too expensive for the Hoops in January.

Celtic are expected to prioritise a move for a shot-stopper in the next transfer window with undisputed number one Joe Hart’s contract expiring at the end of the season.

It is believed that Liverpool will demand a fee of around £20million to let their second-choice shot-stopper depart this month.

Sources have told Football Insider (18 January) that the 25-year-old is ready to quit the Premier League giants in the summer in search of regular first-team football.

This has opened the door for the Hoops to make a swoop for Kelleher, who features highly on Brendan Rodgers’ list of goalkeeper targets.

Kelleher is highly regarded at Anfield and has made 11 appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side this season.

He started in all but one Europa League group-stage games for the Reds, all their EFL Cup ties and made two Premier League starts while first-choice Alisson was injured.

However, after joining Liverpool’s academy in 2015, he has never made more than 8 senior appearances in a season before this campaign and is eager to become first-choice elsewhere.
