Sources: Man United £80m Moises Caicedo offer would be accepted
Man United could land summer target Moises Caicedo for £80million despite him signing a new Brighton contract, sources have told Football Insider.
Sources with knowledge of the 21-year-old’s situation have revealed the new deal will have no bearing on a potential transfer – opening the door to yet another transfer saga involving the midfielder.
Arsenal pushed to sign Caicedo in January but saw a reported £70million bid rejected by the Seagulls in the final days of the winter window.
The Ecuador international is set to field offers from a number of top English clubs in the off-season, including Man United.
Football Insider revealed last week (4 April) that Arsenal’s interest is not dead – while Chelsea and Liverpool are also ready to swoop for Caicedo this summer.
Top clubs have not been put off by the midfielder’s new terms sheet at Brighton – which runs until June 2027.
He now earns a reported wage of £60,000-a-week at the Amex Stadium after pleading to leave the club via social media in January.
Caicedo has impressed in his first full season in the Premier League, notching one goal and one assist across 27 top-flight appearances this season.
He also turned out for Ecuador at the World Cup in Qatar last year (2022), and has now made 30 appearances for his country despite his tender age.
With the help of the defensive midfielder, Brighton are now on course for their best-ever season and are well-placed to secure Champions League football for the 2023-24 campaign.
Man United are searching for midfield reinforcements with Scott McTominay the subject of interest from West Ham and Newcastle United.
On-loan star Marcel Sabitzer is set to return to parent club Bayern Munich at the end of this season.
The Red Devils sit fourth in the Premier League table and will rival Brighton and Newcastle in the race for Champions League qualification.
