Sources: Newcastle set sights on midfield duo after £100m+ Bruno Guimaraes development

Newcastle United are looking at summer moves for Atalanta’s Ederson and Everton’s Amadou Onana as replacements for Bruno Guimaraes, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking to the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track Podcast, transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed the Magpies are preparing for Guimaraes’ departure and have identified adequate replacements.

Sources have told Football Insider (25 January) that the club could cash in on the midfielder’s £100million release clause in the summer window.

It is believed that European juggernauts Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona and Real Madrid are all monitoring his situation at St James’ Park.

Guimaraes had the huge release clause inserted into the new contract he signed in October last year, which expires in June 2028.

Well-placed sources told Football Insider (22 January) that the Magpies can’t afford a move for the Ederson this month, who would cost between £30-40million, but may revive their interest in the summer.

Onana has impressed with relegation-threatened Everton this season and is on the radar of Newcastle, with Football Insider revealing (21 January) that the Toffees will be forced to sell him if they are found guilty of their latest financial breach.
