Sources: Newcastle United push ahead with Scott McTominay deal after what he told Man United board

Newcastle United are pushing ahead with their pursuit of Scott McTominay, sources have told Football Insider.

McTominay is set to leave Man United in the summer and is attracting interest from multiple Premier League clubs.

The 26-year-old will have two years left on his contract at Old Trafford at the end of the season but Newcastle are keen to agree a deal for the midfielder this summer.

On 7 April, Football Insider revealed that the Scotland international has told the United board he wants to quit at the end of the season if dropped further down the pecking order.

McTominay has seen his game time reduced since the arrivals of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen last summer.

The midfielder has been in the starting lineup for Erik ten Hag’s side 16 times this season compared to 35 starts in the 2021-22 season.

Football Insider sources revealed earlier this month (7 April) that Ten Hag’s side now want to sign Bayern Munich loanee Marcel Sabitzer on a permanent deal this summer, which could push McTominay further down the pecking order and closer to the exit door.

Newcastle are eager to bolster their midfield ranks and have highlighted Harvey Barnes, Mason Mount and James Ward-Prowse as top targets ahead of the upcoming window.

Eddie Howe is looking for a midfielder to join Joelinton and Burno Guimaraes to create a long-term trio in the middle of the park and add some creativity to his squad.
