Sources: Stockport County agree deal to sign Jordan Smith from Nottingham Forest
Stockport County have agreed a deal to sign goalkeeper Jordan Smith following his Nottingham Forest exit, sources have told Football Insider.
Smith, 28, is a free agent after leaving Forest upon the expiration of his contract at the City Ground.
A number of EFL clubs have shown an interest in Smith, but Stockport have moved to tie up a deal for the keeper.
They now have a full agreement and a deal is expected to be completed imminently.
Smith started in Forest’s youth set up when he was seven years old and worked his way through the age groups before joining up with the first team in 2016.
During his lengthy spell at the City Ground, the goalkeeper made 54 appearances across all competitions for the senior side but spent most of his career on loan.
Smith was with Huddersfield for the 2022-23 campaign but did not make a single appearance for the Championship side and only featured in the squad once.
Stockport’s current number one goalkeeper Ben Hinchcliffe has entered the final year of his contract at the League Two club.
The 34-year-old made 46 appearances across all competitions last season, helping them finish fourth in the division.
Stockport narrowly missed out on a spot in League One after losing on penalties to Carlisle in the play-off final.

Alternativa goalkeeping option Ethan Ross spent the 2022-23 campaign on loan at York City.
The 26-year-old has made just nine appearances for Dave Challinor’s side since he joined in 2021.
