Alan Hutton has been left raving over QPR star Eberechi Eze and insists he would “thrive” at a club like Aston Villa.
The former Villa and Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, believes the attacking midfielder is the exact sort of player Dean Smith will want to add to his side this summer.
As revealed by Football Insider earlier this month, QPR have set a £16million price tag on the head of the 22-year-old after his dazzling performances in the Championship last season.
BirminghamLive report that Villa are among a host of top-flight clubs chasing his capture.
Hutton believes QPR’s asking price represents great value for money and that he would be a fantastic addition to the Villans’ squad.
Asked if he thought £16million was a reasonable price, Hutton told Football Insider: “Oh, 100 per cent. He’s a top-quality player, I played against him a couple of times now in previous seasons and I thought he had everything.
“You see, just that confidence, you’re facing a player and they’re confident, he’s willing to try things, forward passes, scores goals, he assists, he works hard – he really ticks all the boxes.
“He’s still very young so he’s got time to improve. It’s going to take a pretty penny to prise a player of his quality away so £16million would be a right good deal.
“Again, a player who can play in a few different positions – he can play in a number 10, he can play out wide coming in – he really fits the mould of what Villa are trying to do and I think he is a special player who could thrive at a team like Villa.”
Eze netted 14 goals and contributed eight assists for QPR last season.
He has a total of 102 Championship games under his belt, as well as two England under-21 appearances to his name.
