After agent comments, Levy must prove £6m worth and seal sensational top-flight deal
Daniel Levy made the headlines this week when it was revealed that his wages had doubled to £6million, making him the highest paid executive in the Premier League.
The Telegraph reported the news from the Tottenham accounts and the news raised headlines for a man who is notoriously tight with players’ wages.
However, no one would say that he’s not doing a brilliant job at Tottenham.
His canny business sense has crafted a team that is punching way above its weight – at least in terms of salaries, and fans can look forward to a new stadium next season.
However, the team is still probably two world-class players away from serious silverware, and Levy can justify his salary and boost his team’s chances of landing gold by sealing a deal for one of Europe’s hottest properties, Matthijs De Ligt.

The 18-year-old centre-back from Ajax is reportedly wanted by Spurs as well as north London rivals Arsenal and Barcelona.
And his agent, Barry Hulshoff, claimed in January that he would be staying at the Dutch club until the end of the campaign, saying: “The intention is to stay at Ajax at least until summer.”
That leaves de Ligt open to a sensational £50million move and Spurs could well be in the market for a new centre-back if Toby Alderweireld leaves, as looks likely this summer.
The prospect of de Ligt teaming up with former teammate Davinson Sanchez, with Juan Foyth set to be unleashed on the first team too, would mean Tottenham have three of the best young centre-backs in Europe.
That would be a frightening prospect that would surely propel the club closer to their first silverware under Pochettino.
Football.London claimed on Thursday that Tottenham would “seriously” look at bringing the young defender in if Alderweireld goes, and that could end up being the very best news for Spurs fans.
Levy’s wages might have raised some eyebrows earlier this week. But he’ll put smiles on the faces of Tottenham fans everywhere if he can prove his worth by bringing in de Ligt.
