Tottenham have been given a huge boost in their pursuit of Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes, and Daniel Levy must pull the trigger now with the summer transfer window set to open shortly.
Italian news outlet Calcio Mercato reported that the Portugal international has appointed Paul Martin as his new agent.
That could be key in the deal, with his previous agent Jorge Mendes having much closer ties to AC Milan and Juventus – two clubs also reported to be in the running to sign Gomes.
Calcio Mercato claim that Martin, who already represents a number of Premier League players, puts Tottenham in the driving seat to sign the 24-year-old midfield destroyer.
That puts the ball firmly in Levy’s court and with Tottenham believed to want to get their business done early in the summer, it’s time for Levy to pull the trigger and land one of the coups of the transfer window.
Gomes would be the perfect player for Tottenham at this moment in time.
Speculation is building that Moussa Dembele will depart in the summer and Pochettino will know that replacing him is one of his biggest jobs.
Gomes, with his vast Champions League and international experience, fits the bill perfectly.
He’s got the best of his career in front of him and will surely benefit from working with a manager like Pochettino.
The lure of the Premier League and Tottenham’s new stadium must be huge for Gomes, who has struggled for game time at Barcelona this season.
He signed for £31.5million two years ago for Barcelona but the chances are that Levy will be able to work his magic and get him for less.
If he does, Gomes could be one of the signings of the summer.
