Report: Spurs to rival club-record fee for English goalscorer only Aguero has bettered in 2018
Tottenham Hotspur are set to launch a £35million bid for Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon in the summer, according to a report.
The Telegraph claim that it won’t be that easy though as the Championship club will try to keep hold of him if they get promoted – they’re currently in the play-off spots in fifth but are eight points off second.
The Telegraph also claims that Fulham now rate the youngster at closer to £50million after an incredible season.
Despite the fact that he’s still only 17 years old, Sessegnon has scored an incredible 13 goals and added four assists in just 34 Championship games, despite playing in a variety of positions including left-back.
His 13th goal of the season came against table-topping Wolves on Saturday and the win boosted their chances of making at least the play-offs.
He’s scored eight in seven league games in 2018, and in the British leagues only Sergio Ageuro has scored more.
Man United are also interested but Tottenham believe they are in pole position to sign Sessegnon and the £35million deal would make him the club’s second most expensive player just £1million behind Davinson Sanchez.
Spurs also believe that Sessegnon would pick them over any other Premier League side.
Football Insider verdict:
Spurs have been linked with Sessegnon for a long time and all the noise coming from Spurs suggest they’re very confident it will happen. Tottenham fans will now have a very good reason to follow the Championship – and hope that Fulham don’t get promoted. Aside from Fulham then wanting to hold on, his value as a Premier League player will go up. That’s the only potential problem though – we can’t see Daniel Levy spending £50million on a 17-year-old.
