Steve Bruce: This awful part of Aston Villa season must change v Rotherham
By Will Butcher
Steve Bruce has called on his Aston Villa side to put their dismal away record behind them by beating Rotherham on Saturday.
The Midlands giants travel to the New York Stadium this weekend with the chance to secure a third successive league win, after Championship victories against Derby and Bristol City.
But Bruce told warned his players on Villa’s official website to change their mentality away from home, describing this season’s form on the road as “awful”.
“We must go with the right mentality,” Bruce said. “We want to keep the run going. We want to take the home form into our away games. It’s a mentality thing.
“Away from Villa Park, we haven’t been anywhere near good enough. Hopefully on Saturday, we make inroads into the awful away record we have.”

Goals from Jonathan Kodjia and Conor Hourihane saw the Midlands giants secure just their second win in 12 outings against Lee Johnson’s Bristol City on Tuesday night, in a 2-0 win.
However, Villa could be in for a stern test on Saturday in Yorkshire, after winning just two of their 19 league and cup fixtures away from home this season.
Sitting in a lowly 17th place, the relegated Premier League side have failed to live up to pre-season hopes of an instant return to the top flight despite spending huge amounts of money on new players.
However, a third successive win against Championship strugglers Rotherham could see Villa climb even further away from the bottom three by rising into 15th place.
