‘Steven Gerrard could make sensational Rangers return’ after big twist
Steven Gerrard has been tipped to make a sensational return to Rangers amid growing pressure on Philippe Clement’s position.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who remains well-connected within the game, explained that the boss is still highly thought of at Ibrox and a return cannot be ruled out.
Gerrard has been under pressure at Al-Ettifaq as his side have won just three of their first ten Saudi Pro League games this season.
He was booed off by large sections of the fanbase after a defeat to Al-Qadisiyah on 2 November, while two key staff members have been sacked in a bid to turn around their results.
Speculation over his future has now continued to grow, and there is a belief that failure to turn around their recent form will result in his dismissal.
Robinson, however, insisted this would be a good thing for Rangers, who would then be given a free run at appointing their former boss to replace Clement.
This comes amid growing pressure on the managerial position at Ibrox after an inconsistent run of results and performances.
Steven Gerrard backed to make sensational Rangers return
Now, Robinson has insisted Gerrard may be in line to take his place as the board are said to be keen on attracting a big-name manager, with several in the running.
“The links with Gerrard are not going to go away,” he told Football Insider.
“With their size and global appeal, they should be able to attract a big-name manager.
“The salary and finances may not be there, but the opportunity to manage such a huge club will attract some big names.
“I could actually see a return happening for Gerrard. He’s highly thought of there.
“They say never go back, but after the job he did there, I could definitely see that happening, especially since he’s under pressure in Saudi Arabia.
“It seems every game could be Clement’s last game and he’s dangling by a thread.

“We don’t like talking about managers losing their jobs, but it feels almost inevitable and they will have to decide who is going to be the next Rangers manager.”
